New Routledge Journal Encourages Dialogues and Multi-disciplinary Perspectives on Black History
Black Histories: Dialogues is a Unique Platform for British and International Research on the Histories of the Peoples of African Descent
Academic publisher Routledge (Taylor & Francis) has announced the launch of Black Histories: Dialogues. This new peer-reviewed journal provides a unique forum for multi-disciplinary research of the histories of people of African descent, with a particular focus on Black British history.
The journal’s primary aim is to encourage dialogues. This is demonstrated by a multi-disciplinary approach, welcoming submissions which examine the social, intellectual, economic, political, or financial aspects of Black histories. Researchers at all career stages and from all geographic regions are invited to submit their work.
Black Histories: Dialogues is edited by Dr Elizabeth Williams (University of Edinburgh) and Dr Christopher Roy Zembe (De Montfort University-Leicester), supported by an Editorial Board of experts from around the world. Williams and Zembe explained the journal’s purpose, “In the wake of the recently awakened worldwide conscience regarding the significance of Black Lives, our vision through this journal is to provide a rigorous intellectual platform for scholarship focused on the histories of the peoples of African descent that have left an indelible mark on Britain and the wider world.”
Olivette Otele, Distinguished Research Professor of the Legacies and Memory of Slavery at SOAS University of London, endorsed the new journal, “Black Histories: Dialogues is a welcome initiative and long overdue academic peer-reviewed journal produced in the UK by Black British historians dedicated to showcase the historical and interdisciplinary contribution of Africans and the African Diaspora to humanity. Boasting a truly global editorial board of scholars I endorse this 21st century platform of research undergirded with perspectives that capture the diversity of Black history from around the globe.”
Black Histories: Dialogues joins a number of established journals published by Routledge that explore different aspects the history and experiences of people of African descent, including African and Black Diaspora, Slavery & Abolition, African Historical Review, and The Journal of Imperial and Commonwealth History.
Two issues of Black Histories: Dialogues will be published each year and the first of 2023 will be focused on the theme of ‘Understanding Black British History: Emerging Perspectives’. All research articles will undergo rigorous double-anonymous peer review, based on initial editor screening, by at least two referees.
