Konsortium der sächsischen Hochschulbibliotheken and Taylor & Francis Group sign OA Books Deal

Sächsische Landesbibliothek – Staats- und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB) / Saxon State and University Library, Dresden

Konsortium der sächsischen Hochschulbibliotheken has signed an open access books agreement with Taylor & Francis Group for twelve months. This OA books agreement will cover a broad range of titles across all subjects covered by Routledge, CRC Press and our other imprints in the humanities, social sciences and behavioral sciences, and it will renew automatically (unless either party terminates the agreement).

Konsortium der sächsischen Hochschulbibliotheken (represented by The Saxon State and University Library Dresden (SLUB)) is a licensing consortium of sixteen university libraries across the Saxony region. This deal will allow eligible authors to publish books OA without having to pay a BPC (book processing charge). Consortia members will receive a 20% discount on the standard BPC. Additionally, funds will be deposited into a prepayment account, managed by T&F, removing the administrative burden on libraries.

“As we continue to grow our open access portfolio, we are thrilled to announce our first OA books agreement with this consortium. Research has found that Open Access books on average have 10 times more downloads and 2.4 times more citations than non-OA books. Taylor & Francis OA Books have been accessed by more than 200 countries across the globe. This maximizes dissemination, diversifies readership and increases opportunities for collaboration,” says Leila Moore, Open Access Books Lead at Taylor & Francis Group.

Simone Georgi, Head of Collection Development, Sächsische Landesbibliothek Staats und Universitätsbibliothek Dresden (SLUB) / Saxon State and University Library, Dresden, says: “We are committed to open access and open science. Research should be accessible worldwide without barriers and it shall be available for further research with free licenses for reuse, distribution and derivation. It is our goal to provide researchers with infrastructure and simple workflows to realize this goal. With this agreement we are partnering with Taylor & Francis Group to offer Saxon researchers an uncomplicated workflow for publishing books open access.”
